Why might my data look different from my bank statement?

2 min read

Summary

Your data in Nance may sometimes look slightly different from your bank statement due to bank processing timelines, refresh timing, or how Nance interprets certain transactions such as transfers. These differences are usually temporary and resolve once the bank finalizes the transaction and Nance refreshes the updated data.

Why Differences Can Appear Between Nance and Your Bank

Bank transaction processing

Banks often show transactions in stages, such as pending or processing before they are finalized. Nance typically receives transaction data once the bank has officially recorded it. Because of this, a transaction may appear earlier or differently in your bank app than in Nance until it is finalized.

Refresh timing in Nance

Nance updates financial data through its refresh system. The system performs scheduled refreshes automatically and may also run triggered refreshes when activity requires updated data. If a new transaction appears in your bank after the last refresh, Nance will show the updated information during the next refresh cycle.

Transfers between your own accounts

When you transfer money between accounts you own, your bank statement may show this as two separate transactions. Nance may interpret these transactions differently so they are not incorrectly counted as spending or income in insights and analytics.

Transaction categorization

Nance organizes transactions into categories to generate spending insights. While the transaction amount remains accurate, the category assigned by Nance may differ from how your bank labels the transaction.

Recently processed or updated transactions

Sometimes banks update transaction details after the initial posting. When this happens, Nance will reflect the updated information during the next refresh.

In most cases, these differences are temporary and resolve automatically once bank processing is complete and Nance retrieves the updated data during its next refresh cycle.
